The current Need for Speed logo (2008-present)

Need for Speed (NFS) is a long-time running racing game series started in 1994. Need for Speed has been developed by Black Box (Former EA Canada), Criterion Games and Slightly Mad Studios. It was on August 31st 1994 when the first NFS game in the series was launched - "The Need for Speed" which was developed by Distinctive Software (EA Canada).

Between 1994 - 1999 Need for Speed in Japan was called Overdrivin. High Stakes was the last Overdrivin Game to have this title.

There have been 20 Games in the NFS series and a 21st Need for Speed game will be released soon.
